2021-2022 National Essay Contest - Last month to participate!

OTTAWA, November 17, 2021 — French for the Future’s National Essay Contest closes in a month! The Contest is a great opportunity for teenagers in grades 10, 11 and 12 (secondary 4 to CÉGEP 1 in Quebec) to practice their French while having the opportunity to continue their post-secondary studies partially or completely in French in one of French for the Future’s 14 partner universities:

• University of Ottawa (ON)
• Glendon Campus of York University (ON)
• Université Sainte-Anne (NS)
• Université de Montréal (QC)
• Université de Moncton (NB)
• Université de l'Ontario français (ON)
• Université de Saint-Boniface (MB)
• The University of British Columbia (BC)
• University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean (AB)
• Simon Fraser University (BC)
• Collège Boréal (ON)
• University of Lethbridge (AB)
• La Cité universitaire francophone, University of Regina (SK)
• Collège de l'Île (PE)

Applicants have a chance to win one of 96 bursaries ranging from $1,000 to $20,000, for a total value of $368,000, to continue their post-secondary education in French at one of the 14 partner institutions across Canada. Interested students have until December 17, 2021 to submit their essays on our website.

By promoting French-language study programs that exist across the country, French for the Future aims at encouraging young people to continue making a place for their Francophonie after high school.

How to participate?

To try to win one of the 96 available bursaries, students must write a 750-word essay in French on the following subject:

In a future where everything is possible, how will the food we eat and the way it is produced have changed?

Essays can be submitted in one of the two categories:

• French first language: Students studying in a francophone school or speaking mainly French at home,
• French Second Language: Students studying in an anglophone school, enrolled in an immersion program, enrolled in a core French program and/or mainly speaking a language other than French at home.

The 96 winners will be selected by a panel of judges during winter, and announced in March 2022.
