8 young bilingual Canadian aged 16-22, passionate about promoting bilingualism and ready to create impactful projects. Meet the members of our youth committee!
As a Bilingual Young Leader, they’ll work as a team on a project they build from the ground up. They will receive training in governance and project management, and amplify French for the Future’s impact among the youth. Our committee is made of 7-8 individuals who are dedicated to shaping the future of bilingualism in Canada.

As a Bilingual Young Leader, you’ll work as a team on a project you build from the ground up. Applications for the JLB are open from August 1 to 30.
Join a dynamic team! The members meet once a year in person and stay connected with virtual meetups. Participants spend about 10 hours a month collaborating on exciting projects that promote bilingualism.
To apply you must be between 16 and 22 years old and live in Canada throughout the first year of the term. For more details visit the rules’page.
Hi! My name is Chloe Guan, and I am a 16-year-old from Montreal, Quebec. Having grown up in a versatile environment, I am passionate about many aspects of life, including sports like volleyball and swimming, as well as everything related to the creative world, whether it’s art, cinematography, or writing. I am also in a school program that focuses on the development of young people in terms of culture, openness to the world, travel, and meeting others. It is thanks to this program that I became more involved throughout my community, and I am now a member of several youth committees, such as that of my local municipality (Pointe-Claire), that of the Vimy Foundation, and this one! I feel very honoured to be able to serve on this board for the next two years, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds!
Though growing up with an Acadian parent, my hometown of Hubley, Nova Scotia, delayed my learning of French until secondary school, where I enrolled in French immersion. My love for the language and learning about my heritage eventually drew me to pursue a minor in French at the University of New Brunswick. Experiences such as participating in Canada’s first-ever Choix Goncourt student panel, working for the Explore Program at Collège La Cité, and being named a Young Ambassador of Francophonie in the Americas are helping me to become a passionate advocate for bilingualism in Canada— and beyond.
Born and raised in Orléans, a more francophone region of Ottawa, Justine is passionate about French and its significance in her own life and other’s. Throughout her high school years, she has been actively involved in advocating for francophone culture within minority contexts. Currently a biology student at the University of Ottawa, she continues to cultivate her thirst for knowledge and establish social connections. Naturally curious, her life goal is to make the world a more positive place and ensure that everyone feels welcomed and at ease, in the language of their choice!
Mariam is a second-year health sciences student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, she is a proud Fransaskoise. Of Coptic Orthodox origin, a minority Egyptian community, Mariam was born in Egypt and lived there for several years before moving to Canada. Growing up between multiple cultural identities, she demonstrates great open-mindedness and is actively engaged in building bridges between these diverse communities. Always determined to serve her community, she uses her bilingual skills to promote French-language services and contribute to increasing bilingualism in Canada. Mariam enjoys being an active voice in her community, and she is eager to take on a role as a bilingual young leader!
I am in grade 12 at L'Odyssée School in Moncton, NB. I am from Iran and have been living in Canada since 2021. I started grade 9 here in Canada. I also started my French language journey in grade 9. I fell in love with this language, despite the difficulties I encountered, because French was a new language for me. I managed to learn French, communicate with others, succeed in my classes, and even take a university course at the Université de Moncton. I am very involved in my school. I am a mentor/tutor for grade 9 students, I am part of the graduate assistance committee, etc. I also founded a committee in my school, OdyTutorat, which offers help in different subjects to high school and intermediate students in Moncton. It is a free service and in French. In my community, I am a member of the city youth council/mayor, a member of the Francophone South District youth council as a representative of my school, and a volunteer for the city, MAGMA, CAFI, and the hospital. I am also a member of Children First Canada. I participated in SHAD Canada 2023 and the Quantum School for Young Students 2024. Later in life, I plan to pursue a medical degree. In my free time, I read novels and watch Netflix shows. I play the violin and do karate. I am really looking forward to joining the Bilingual Young Leaders committee.
As a proud Franco-Ontarian, Stella Rose Bégin is originally from Orangeville and is currently studying biology at the University of Ottawa. In addition to her passion for science, her curiosity has given her a passion for the francophone culture. Ever since childhood, she has been involved in her community to share her commitment concerning the cause of French in minority settings. She’s currently continuing this pursuit by getting involved in various programs and activities such as French for Future’s FNJA and essay writing contest. In her spare time, Stella is a bookworm and also enjoys cooking and baking.
Tahi is an enthusiastic and dedicated student, originally from New Zealand, who is currently completing his final year of high school in North Vancouver. His bilingual journey through the Late French Immersion program has allowed him to expand his academic horizons, discover masterpieces of French-language music, film, and theatre, and meet many lifelong friends in Vancouver’s thriving Francophone community. As an eager learner who enjoys exploring new mediums for expression, he has won numerous academic awards for his language and history studies in French. After high school, he wishes to pursue his passions of French and computer science at the university level, and in his spare time, you will find him exploring the latest in Québécois indie pop. He is honoured to be a Young Bilingual Leader and overjoyed to contribute to a national voice promoting the future of Canadian bilingualism.
Yadhiera is a first-year student at the University of Alberta. She was born in Montréal, Québec, to two Haitian parents, and moved to Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of two. She is passionate about issues facing young francophones, especially those in a minority setting. This prompted her to start a French Club back in Grade 11 with a few other friends, in hopes of creating a space for students to practice the French language and learn more about various francophone cultures. With the Bilingual Young Leaders, she aims to encourage others to embrace their linguistic identity and take on an active role in their francophone community.
